Car hire insurance | Auto Europe UK Car Hire Blog

How often do you think of insurance when you plan your holiday or car hire? It is worth spending some time to read and understand the conditions of insurance policy in order to save you some unnecessary and stressful experience.

Here is a short guide to car hire insurance.

Auto Europe as a broker does not sell insurance, it is included in a car hire package and determined by a local supplier. Therefore, you may come across different insurance options from various car hire companies on our website.

There is a basic distinction between liability insurance, car damage waiver (CDW) and theft protection (TP).

Liability insurance for injuries or damages to persons or things outside the vehicle is included in every Auto Europe car hire offer.

What can differ is CDW and TP excess amount. CDW limits potential vehicle damage liability to a given set amount. For example: CDW excess is 600 Euros. If a hired car is damaged, a person renting it will be responsible for damages up to 600 Euros. All costs higher than 600 Euros are covered by insurance. The same rule applies to TP that limits potential vehicle loss to an excess of a specified amount.
Important: a deposit is blocked on the main driver?s credit card at a pick up. A minimum deposit amount is: excess+fuel+vat. It is vital not to forget own credit card as the car hire will be denied if the driver does not present their own credit card!

Some suppliers offer ?no excess insurance?. If you choose ?no excess? option, it is important to verify which car parts are included in this insurance and if third party accidents will be covered as well. Most car hire insurance exclude damages to windows/windscreen, interior, wheels, tyres, under body and roof of the vehicle.

What may come extra? You may buy off the CDW and TP excess locally as well as purchase coverage for those car parts that are not included in a basic insurance option.

Auto Europe runs a ?refundable excess? program. If you book our ?refundable excess? product, you will be reimbursed for any excess paid to the supplier for accidental damage. In order to issue a refund, Auto Europe requires: supplier damage report, police report as well as repair bills. You can find a full description of the service on each car hire offer that includes ?refundable excess?.

All insurance conditions can be found on our booking mask before a reservation is submitted. Once a booking is confirmed, you receive a voucher with all the T&C listed.

For all those who still find it confusing, Auto Europe has a toll free number for assistance. Wherever you are planning to go, Spain or the USA, our agents will help you choose the best offer for you!
